The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at the Colorado School of Mines invites applications for one or possibly two Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship positions to begin in August 2017. The position is a two-year appointment (based upon satisfactory performance in the classroom) that can be renewed by the department for an additional year. Mines is a public research university devoted to engineering and the applied sciences and has the highest admission standards of any university in Colorado. The AMS Department consists of 22 faculty members and offers Bachelor's, Master's and PhD degrees. The AMS Department is located in Golden, Colorado in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 15 miles west of downtown Denver and 20 miles south of Boulder.
The Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow is expected to teach 16-19 credits (4-6 courses) per year. The primary teaching responsibilities will be in the core mathematics sequence (Calculus I, II, III and Differential Equations); there will also be an opportunity to teach outside of the core curriculum (Intro to Prob/Stat, Intro to Scientific Computing, Linear Algebra, Intro to Proofs). Each postdoc is assigned a teaching mentor from the AMS faculty who guides the fellow in professional development as an educator. Postdocs will collaborate with AMS faculty in the improvement and delivery of courses.
This position is intended for recent PhD candidates. Applicants must possess a PhD in mathematics, statistics, or related degree by August 2017. Applicants must have experience in teaching mathematics at the collegiate level.
