Position Title:Admissions Counselor - Transfer Focus
Job Description:The Admissions Counselor is a full-time, 12-month, campus-based, administrative faculty professional exempt position in the undergraduate Admissions Office at Colorado School of Mines.  The position thoroughly engages in undergraduate recruitment efforts through actively communicating the benefits of a Mines education to prospective students, their parents, counselors and other community organizations. The Admissions Counselor is primarily responsible for visiting high schools and community colleges, advising prospective students and their families on admissions to Mines, and evaluating applications for admission, encouraging enrollment and other general Admissions Office activities.  In addition, the Admissions Counselor will serve as the lead Admissions staff person in identifying, developing and facilitating Mines' transfer student recruiting efforts.  The Admissions Counselor reports to the Director of Admissions and is a member of the Enrollment Management team. Evening and weekend work is required.

The Admissions Counselor will represent Mines at scheduled college day/night programs/events and transfer fairs throughout Colorado. On occasion, travel outside the state is necessary. In addition, the Admissions Counselor will be responsible for individual visits to selected high schools and community colleges throughout the academic year, and in these schools, will serve as the primary Admissions Office contact for counselors and students interested in Mines.  The Admissions Counselor serves as a member of the Freshman Admissions Evaluation Team, working closely with Mines faculty and staff to facilitate the successful recruitment, admission and enrollment of new students to Mines, with particular focus on prospective populations that are the strongest pipelines for the recruitment of diverse students.

The focus of this position is to identify, manage and coordinate programming outreach to transfer students interested in attending Mines.  The position counsels transfer students before and after admission including through enrollment transition, orientation, and after enrollment, and serves as the key liaison to external community organizations that serve the prospective transfer student pipelines.  

Minimum Qualifications:A bachelor's degree and moderate amounts of demonstrated experience working in a student services office within a high school, pre-collegiate program community college or college setting with students, including those from socially, racially and ethnically diverse populations are required. Must have strong public speaking, written and oral communication skills.  Must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and be highly detail-oriented.  Travel needs of the positions require successful applicants to be experienced both working independently as well as within a team and to possess a valid driver's license, and current, valid personal auto insurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in a community college, college or university admissions office
  • Prior experience working with non-traditional and Veterans students
  • Familiarity with integrated student information systems (i.e., Banner or similar system), constituent relationship management systems, as well as word processing, spreadsheet and database programs
