Position Title: Temporary Closeout Administrator
Job Description:

The Temporary Closeout Administrator will be responsible for various accounting-related functions in the Office of Research Administration (ORA). This position will be a temporary member of the Post-Award Team and serves as a resource to faculty and administrators in the financial administration of sponsored research awards.

This position requires critical thinking and accounting skills to apply financial updates to sponsored activity. The Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites resumes for this temporary position which will perform the Sponsored Research Project Closeout duties as listed below.

Responsibilities:  
  • Reconcile and analyze cash with sponsor balances against budget, expenses and revenue.
  • Obtain, analyze and interpret financial data required for federal and non-federal financial.  Accurately generate and submit all financial reports to sponsors.
  • Review and prepare project accounts for closure, resolve cash deficits and accounts receivable, outstanding encumbrance or payable issues, process refunds or fund transfers if necessary, prepare correcting entries and close projects in the School finance system.
  • Consult with ORA and campus personnel regarding allowable expenses and balances.
  • Verify that indirect costs are accurate, cost-sharing/matching funds are identified and reported.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree in business, accounting, finance or the equivalent in experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Fluency in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and the ability to use and navigate complex databases and enterprise systems
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and works effectively in a diverse community

Department Description:

The Office of Research Administration’s (ORA) mission is to provide administrative and business support to faculty engaged in the research enterprise. ORA assists with proposal preparation, contract and grant negotiation and acceptance, expense monitoring, financial reporting, billing and accounts receivable and financial closeout of a research project.  ORA also provides training to faculty and staff, initiates and implements policies and procedures, serves as a liaison with project sponsors and ensures compliance with federal, state and School rules, regulations and policies.
