Position Title: Application Developer 
Job Description:

One position functions as the recognized expert for the proper configuration, implementation and operation of the Ellucian Banner Human Resources system and the other of the Ellucian Banner Financial Aid system.

The positions operate as project leads and are relied upon to provide technical guidance, direction and instruction to management, peers and administration departments (either Human Resources, Payroll and Budget OR Financial Aid) on the proper analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and support of Banner Human Resources OR Banner Financial Aid and integrated systems. This entails working closely with administration departments to identify needs and problems, translate requirements into technical specifications, and develop innovative solutions utilizing Banner Human Resources OR Banner Financial Aid administrative and self-service applications, Mines web portal, and third-party systems/applications to support and enhance business operations. This requires application of best-practice and established system analysis, design and programming concepts, principles and standards. These positions also provide Level l support for other Banner modules.

Responsibilities:

Support and maintain Banner Human Resources OR Banner Financial Aid, and existing integrations and interfaces, which include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Analyze and evaluate business needs, policies and procedures, federal and state regulations and requirements, available resources and tools, vendor releases and road maps, etc. to plan, design, specify guidelines and implement new programs, changes and operating procedures. Specify implementation project scope and objectives. Develop project plans, priorities and schedules to implement agreed upon objectives.
  • Review Banner upgrades and patches to determine their applicability and impact on existing processes and procedures. Coordinate their installation in both test and production environments with functional users, manager and DBAs, and assist users in developing effective test plans. 
  • Support and maintain Banner customizations, system integrations, and interfaces between Banner and third-party systems/applications throughout upgrades. 
  • Assist with new system integrations and third-party software implementations
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a field closely related to computer science. lndividuals without a degree may be considered if they demonstrate possession of substantially the same knowledge level as found in a degree, but have attained the advanced knowledge through a combination of work experience and intellectual instruction.
  • Experience with SQL, PL,/SQL and relational database management systems (Oracle and/or MS-SQL Server)
  • Programming and/or scripting experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience with Linux operating system  
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with others and in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills and ability to communicate effectively with both technical staff and non-technical users
  • Demonstrated skills to diagnose and resolve technical problems independently
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Ellucian products (i.e. Banner, Workflow)
  • Experience in Higher Education
  • Experience with Automic Enterprise Job Scheduler
  • Experience with source code control and versioning systems such as Git and Subversion
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages and web technologies such as Java, Groovy, JavaScript, HTML, XML and CSS
  • Experience with Enterprise Content Management systems
Department Description: Computing, Communications, and Information Technologies (CCIT) provides information technology services and support to meet the instructional, administrative, and research needs of the Colorado School of Mines. CCIT manages and operates central academic and administrative technology infrastructure and systems including learning technologies, enterprise systems, business and administrative systems, as well as servers, storage and the voice/data networking infrastructure. CCIT also provides research support services including three High Performance Computing platforms. In addition to providing key infrastructure and technology platforms, services provided to the campus community include e-mail, wired and wireless network operation and support, phone services, server and network security, volume and site licensing of software, videoconferencing, online student services, and support for Mines learning management system (Canvas). CCIT's Client Services and Support Team, which includes the Technology Support Center, provides customer-focused technical assistance and support through a centralized Help Desk.
