Position Title: Assistant Director-International Student and Scholar Services
Job Description: The Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services Office assists the Mines community in providing services and programs that facilitate the transitioning, integration, and retention of international students and scholars. The Assistant Director is responsible for designing immigration-related services and programs with other university departments. 

Under the general supervision of the Director of International Student and Scholar Services, the Assistant Director is responsible for designing immigration-related services and programs with other university departments.  Duties include preparing and issuing immigration documents such as I-20 and DS-2019 documents; maintaining the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database per federal regulation requirements; advising international students, scholars, faculty and dependents on such issues as employment options, school transfers, academic issues, compliance issues, etc.; evaluation of foreign credentials for undergraduate admissions; design of letters and document services for students and scholars related to immigration and sponsor requirements  to ensure compliance with the Department of Homeland Security and Department of State.  Position will develop and coordinate presentations, promotional materials, web and other informational resources on student and scholar immigration issues and is responsible for the direct hiring, training and supervision of approximately ten student staff. 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year institution of higher education AND significant experience working with international students, student affairs or related department, including experience with immigration OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Eligible to serve as Designated School Official by USCIS and Alternate Responsible Officer with the Department of State
  • Skill in the planning, evaluation, revision and implementation of student development programs  
  • Knowledgeable of student development theory, student personnel administration, crisis intervention techniques and have experience supervising and training others
  • Experience working a student information system (Banner preferred),  web-based enrollment and registration management solution (TerraDotta preferred) and have knowledge of college success and student recruitment/retention issues
  • Proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Must be willing and able to work nights and/or weekends as needed for special events and during peak times  
Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, or related field is preferred. 
Department Description: The International Student and Scholar Services Office services approximately 750 international students from 77 countries who attend Colorado School of Mines.
