Position Title: Computer Science Open Rank Tenure/Tenure-Track Faculty
Job Description:

The Computer Science Department at Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for an open rank tenure/tenure-track faculty position in Computer Science (applications considered at assistant, associate, and full professor levels), anticipated to begin in August 2018. Research specialization of interest includes data science, broadly defined to include, but not limited to, machine learning, data mining, and data analytics.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses as well as develop an externally funded research program that includes graduate students and results in publications in conferences and journals. Service to both Mines and the profession is expected.  Mines encourages applications from qualified candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community through their research, teaching, and service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess, by August 2018, a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or closely related field. Applicants must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. In addition, applicants must demonstrate, or show evidence of, excellent written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Applicants for associate professor or full professor must have an established and currently-funded program with clear potential for continuance, and a proven track record of success in teaching, research, and service.

Department Description:

Colorado School of Mines, Colorado's oldest public university is located in Golden, Colorado, in the foothills of the Rockies, 13 miles west of Denver and 21 miles south of Boulder. Mines has 4500 undergraduate students and 1200 graduate students in a broad range of applied science and engineering disciplines. Annual research funding in 2016 was $60M. The 2017 edition of U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Colleges ranks Mines as the second-ranked public university in Colorado and 82nd in the category of Best National Universities, both public and private, and 33rd in the category of Top Public Schools. The School’s proximity to Denver and Boulder provides opportunities for significant collaboration with government labs and industry as well as other universities.

The CS Department currently has 11 tenured/tenure track faculty and 4 teaching faculty. The Department offers a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Computer Science with approximately 400 undergraduate and 60 graduate students. Compensation: Starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
