Position Title: Associate Director Career Center Advising and Professional Development
Job Description: Under the general supervision of the Director of the Career Center and Employer Relations, the Associate Director of Career Center Advising and Professional Development's mission is to maximize the professional development of students and recent graduates, first destination employment outcomes, and college resources. Produces comprehensive follow-up surveys of graduates and annual report. Assists all students and recent graduates in developing the skills critical for the effective transition from college to career. This includes the ability to evaluate and/or implement career education and employment decisions and plans. This transition from student to professional is integral to the success of Mines graduates and to the mission of Mines as an institution. Oversees the outreach and management of employers for WIRED event, workshops, and career panels. This is accomplished through a strategic plan of engagement, events, data analysis and collection, internal and external contacts. This is a full time, 12-month administrative faculty professional exempt position. 
Responsibilities:

Manage career advising programs (40%)

  • Manage programs and direct initiatives and set goals that provide career guidance, professional development and job search assistance to students and recent graduates
  • Schedule and manage assistance, walk-in coverage and round tables to allow for quality instruction on resume/CV writing, cover and thank you letter development, interview presentation skills and other tools for an effective job search. Conduct practice interviews and salary negotiation meetings.
  • Develop, implement and manage specialized career services programs for underrepresented groups such as veterans, students with disabilities, etc.

Campus and external stakeholder engagement (20%)

  • Develop, schedule, manage and deliver presentations and workshops for students, prospective students, graduates, student associations, Greek Life, etc.
  • Assist with Faculty Relations Program initiatives, meetings and events
  • Schedule externals speakers for professional development seminars and panels

Reporting (20%)

  • Develop, implement and manage data collection system for measuring summer and entry level employment
  • Conduct semester survey of graduates and produce follow up reports
  • Produce a comprehensive annual report
  • Maintain records and statistical information, collect data, analyze programs, etc.

Supervision (20%)

  •  Supervise the Graduate and Undergraduate Career Advisors, as well as the Career Peer Student Assistant staff
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree required, preferably in career counseling, college student personnel, higher education administration, or related field
  • Professional experience advising students and graduates on career development and job searching techniques
  • Strong presentation skills and experience coordinating and organizing workshops, meetings and events
  • Significant experience in the supervision and training of students and/or professional staff
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Significant experience using college data systems and database applications
  • Experience working effectively with post secondary staff and faculty
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience gathering data, compiling and analyzing information, and preparing reports from systems such as Symplicity, Banner, CSO or a comparable system
  • Knowledge of college recruiting principles and procedures
  • Experience coordinating and organizing classroom instruction and staffing
  • Experience working directly with undergraduate and graduate level engineering, business, and/or technology students
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to the employment recruitment of interns, co-ops and new graduates
