Position Title: Geology and Geological Engineering Open Rank Faculty
Job Description:

We seek candidates at all ranks (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) who possess a strong potential for interdisciplinary research collaborations within the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering and across Mines (e.g. with Civil and Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, Geophysics, and/or Petroleum Engineering). We will consider candidates with expertise in a wide range of research areas, including, but not limited to, earth surface processes and geomorphology, engineering geology, and coupled problems (e.g. thermo-hydro-mechanical). While the successful candidate's degree need not be in Geological Engineering, they must have the potential to collaborate with the Engineering faculty in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering on research, graduate student advising and teaching activities.


The successful candidate will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate research and thesis projects, establish a quality publication record, and develop a strong externally funded research program. Teaching responsibilities will include core courses associated with the Geological Engineering undergraduate degree and graduate courses in the candidate‚Äôs specialty.  The candidate is expected to develop courses for on-line delivery. The successful candidate must have an interest in developing collaborative, cross-disciplinary research across the Mines campus, recruiting and involving a diverse group of students.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must possess an earned PhD degree in geological engineering, geology, or a closely related discipline and background and expertise in one or more of the specialty areas listed above. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate the potential to become an excellent teacher and scholar. The candidate must conduct high-impact, well-funded, cross-disciplinary research with a strong and growing publication record. 
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching and working in an academic environment is highly desired.  Also desired is experience working in industry, and credentials to qualify for professional engineering registration.

Department Description: The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering has 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty, approximately 140 undergraduate students, and over 180 graduate students. The Department offers an ABET-accredited B.S. in Geological Engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Geology, Geological Engineering, Hydrologic Sciences and Engineering, Geochemistry, and Underground Construction and Tunneling, as well as several non-thesis and Professional M.S. degrees.
