Position Title: Head Baseball Coach
Job Description: Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the Baseball program at Colorado School of Mines. In summary, these include establishing program direction and vision, establishing student athlete recruitment strategies and goals, overseeing and supervising assistant coaches, assuring student-athlete academic success and resources in conjunction with institutional staff and faculty; planning budgets, creating competition strategies, creating practice plans and delivering coaching direction to student athletes, coordinating with sports information and training staff, assuring proper oversight of practices and games, assuring in coordination with Athletics Department compliance staff full education of and compliance with NCAA and Mines regulations, and overseeing and coordinating outreach to alumni and donors.
  • Apply current sport-specific research and principles to create, plan, implement and teach in-season and out-of-season training programs for all members of the baseball team
  • Create practice plans and teach all members of baseball team appropriate situational game plans to maximize potential success
  • Work with Strength and Conditioning Coach to develop, teach and implement appropriate strength and conditioning programs
  • Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches
  • Oversee and manage the budget, purchasing and maintenance of all uniforms, shoes and necessary equipment
  • Organize and plan all team travel within the confines of the allocated budget
  • Teach appropriate sportsmanship and character to all members of the team in accordance with the RMAC and NCAA sportsmanship codes. Serve as a role model for student athletes by exhibiting ethical and professional conduct at all times
  • Recruit and on-board suitable student athletes to Colorado School of Mines
  • Interact with alumni and donors to encourage participation and support of the baseball team and Mines Athletics.  Represent Mines to outside entities including members of the media and others as needed.
  • Teach PA class to Mines student body when assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree 
  • Moderate amounts of demonstrated successful coaching experience at the professional, collegiate or high school level
  • Must be an excellent teacher and have the ability to impart proper training methods and techniques to student athletes
  • Demonstrated mastery of coaching principles including all phases of game strategy, planning, and execution
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the University including, but not limited to, student athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, alumni, donors, civic and business leaders
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Significant experience as a head coach at the professional, collegiate or the high school level
  • Successful experience working at and demonstrated understanding of the culture of a rigorous academic institution
  • Participation as a student athlete in baseball in intercollegiate athletics
  • Certification in CPR/AED
