Position Title: Assistant Director, Multicultural Engineering Program
Job Description:

The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the Director of the Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP) to provide mentorship for the five MEP professional societies, will assist with the planning and implementation of established MEP programs, and will provide administrative support for the daily activities of the MEP office. The Assistant Director will take the lead on coordination of the MEP Leadership Retreat. The Assistant Director will assist the Director with the development of new programming to support and assess the retention of underrepresented minority students and first generation college students. The Assistant Director will co-lead the Challenge summer bridge program, and be present for the duration of the four-week program.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide support for the five MEP professional societies (indicated in the Department Description), including management of organization accounts, and assistance in the absence of a formal faculty advisor
  • Support for all existing programming (New Student events, Professional Development Workshop, Leadership Retreat, MEP Annual Banquet, Challenge, etc.). Support may include planning, coordination, and implementation
  • Provide administrative support for the day-to-day functions of the MEP office, including hiring and supervising of MEP work study students and/or graduate interns
  • Serve as the co-lead for the Challenge program. Coordination would include regular communications with campus departments (e.g. CASA, Residence Life, Conference Services, Sodexo, and Academic Departments/ Faculty, etc.) during planning and implementation of the four-week program. The Assistant Director will work with the Director to assess Challenge applicants, academic performance of participants, and program
  • Help to develop systems and implement processes to aid in program and office efficiency
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Direct experience working with high school or college age students from underrepresented populations, including but not limited to ethnic and racial minorities, first generation college students, and students who identify as LGBTQ+
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including goal setting, strategic planning, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience and knowledge regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and access
  • Experience with resource management, including budgeting for programs
  • Experience working on teams, relationship building, managing people and partnership development
Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree

Department Description: The Multicultural Engineering program was established at Colorado School of Mines in 1989 with the mission to help recruit, retain, and graduate students who are historically underrepresented in STEM, and to promote inclusive and equitable opportunities for faculty, staff and students. Within its current charter, MEP directly supports the following professional societies: the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (oSTEM), the Society of Asian Scientist and Engineers (SASE), and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). Over the years, MEP has played a significant role in the ongoing commitment Mines has to create a more diverse and inclusive learning community.
