Job Description:

The Director of Facilities & Aquatics provides direct leadership and supervision for the Student Recreation Center and satellite Recreational Sports facilities. This includes scheduling and management of the facility, student staff, as well as internal and external events. The position is the second senior management position in the Student Recreation Center (SRC), providing direct oversight, as assigned, for the facility special events and varsity competitions.  The SRC operates seven days a week with extended hours and numerous facility reservations and events. Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director/Director of Recreational Sports the Director of Facilities & Aquatics provides vital flexibility in the management and supervision of Rec. Sports\Athletics facilities, staff, events and competitions.

Responsibilities:

Facilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of comprehensive recreation facilities ensuring safety, service, inclusiveness, collaboration and student focus.
  • Provides leadership and supervises the hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation, discipline and payroll of approximately 60 student employees.
  • Work collaboratively with Facilities Management, including but not limited to, event staff, electricians, HVAC, structured trades, pool maintenance staff and custodial staff to ensure work orders, repairs and maintenance are being completed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Schedule reservable spaces within the SRC.

Management: 

  • Provides input to the annual budget of the SRC
  • In collaboration with the rest of the Rec Sports staff, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan for Rec. Sports including but not limited to website, digital displays, print media, social media, and radio station content.
  • Plan, implement and regularly revise facility policies and procedures including but not limited to the MUO, membership policies, aquatic policies and the emergency action plan for Rec. Sports facilities.
  • Participate in the purchasing process through researching equipment and services, developing RFPs, generating price comparisons and compiling patron feedback regarding various pieces of equipment and supplies in the facility.
  • Collect, compile and report on various facility information. Including but not limited to facility usage, patron experience, student staff satisfaction etc.
  • Hire, train, manage and evaluate SRC Summer Intern.  

Aquatics:

  • Recruit, train, schedule and supervise lifeguards.
  • Create and enforce pool policies, respond to pool-related patron requests or complaints and manage pool facility issues.
  • Purchase or recommend aquatics equipment as needed.
  • Schedule and coordinate CPR and Lifeguard training for department staff.
  • Coordinate and supervise maintenance and risk management issues

General:

  • Establish and build positive relationships with other constituents on campus.
  • Demonstrated ability to make informative presentations to a variety of groups.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, which include the ability to be precise, thorough and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work as both a leader and a member of a team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, or related field.
  • Progressive professional experience in recreational sports/intercollegiate athletics.
  • Position requires expertise in implementing recreational sports programs, strong leadership abilities, skills in managing conflict, skills in training and leading professional and student staff, and a demonstrated willingness to manage a recreational sports facility.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development in higher education.
  • The successful candidate must possess excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills; and computer proficiency.
  • Good judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Strong conflict resolution and customer service skills
  • Ability to function in a fast paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Current First Aid/CPR/ AED certifications, or obtain within one month of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Sport Management, Recreation, Physical Education or related field.
  • Active NIRSA Member
  • NIRSA RCRSP Certification
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certifications, or obtain within 12 months of hire
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification or obtain within 12 months of hire
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certified
  • Successful purchasing experience in analyzing products and services as well as developing RFPs.
  • Previous fiscal and management experience with mufti-functional facilities.
  • Proficient in the use of the following software applications: WhenToWork, SubltUp , Fusion, EMS Scheduling, AMX, Neptune Radio, Microsoft Office Professional, Banner, Area Access Manager, Ocularis, CRS Contract System, SideArm Sport s, Google Products , School Dude
  • Previous shared facility scheduling and event management experience.
  • Previous experience working with collegiate athletics
  • Previous experience developing, revising and evaluating policies and procedures for a shared use recreational sports/athletics facility
  • Previous experience marketing recreational sports programs and services
  • Experience supervising student employees
