Position Title:

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering – Adjunct Faculty Position

Job Description:

Colorado School of Mines invites applications for a part-time position as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to teach classes in Civil and Environmental Engineering that range from introductory courses to advanced courses in one’s area of expertise. 


Primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing well-designed and effective instruction that excites and inspires a desire for new knowledge while adequately covering an approved course syllabus,
  • Holding office hours as required,
  • Using best practices in pedagogy to assess student outcomes using student work and performance data,
  • If a multi-section course, working with other faculty to ensure consistent delivery and coverage across all sections. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates should have a master’s degree or higher or a bachelor’s degree and commensurate experience in Civil/Environmental Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Professional and/or academic experience and accomplishments are preferred.
  • Applicants must demonstrate, or show evidence of, excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.

We expect candidates to commit their time for an entire semester.  Opportunities are available as early as Spring 2019.   

Department Description:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado School of Mines produces graduates who can design, protect, and maintain sustainable built and natural environments in society. The department offers two closely-related undergraduate programs: the B.S. in Civil Engineering and the B.S. in Environmental Engineering, which currently enroll 253 and 191 students, respectively, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering and in Environmental Engineering Science. Faculty teach classes in related topics from sophomore through graduate levels.  More information about the department can be found at

Starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
