Position Title: Program Manager
The Opportunity:

Reporting to the GE Department Head, this part-time (50%) position exists to help the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering to grow its Professional Master (PM) and nonĀ­ thesis Master (NTS) programs. This position will collaborate closely with the tenured faculty managing these programs and the faculty delivering courses in the respective programs. This position provides communications with prospective students, students who have applied, and admitted students. This position will also need to communicate with companies and sponsors. This position will refine and continue to implement the marketing strategy for the PM NTS programs and will update electronic and print publications that can be distributed to prospective students and sponsors. The person holding this position will be responsible for supervision of students in the PM NTS programs, including the supervision of independent studies and the set-up of summer internships . The position will help with organization of related short and modular courses.

Responsibilities:

Communication and Reporting

  • Regularly update communications, in a variety of media, to recruit high quality applicants to thee PM NTS programs to increase the size and diversity of the student population.
  • Respond to inquiries of prospective students interested in applying to the PM NTS programs in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering.
  • Provide students with information needed during the application process.
  • Maintain and manage admission of students In the PM NTS programs.
  • Communicate with students admitted to the PM NTS programs prior to and after their decision to come to Mines.
  • Assist Department of Geology and Geological Engineering in preparingfor student visits prior to acceptance .
  • Maintain an accurate database and mailing list of sponsors or potential sponsors of students in the PM NTS programs.
  • Track placement of students following graduation and maintain database ofalumni.
  • Communicate with related CSM offices and other departments for issues including policies, compliance, collaboration, etc.
  • This position is funded through the success of the GE PM NTS programs, specifically the Mineral Exploration program. With the GE Department Manager managing funds earned by these programs, it is necessary for this position to consistently report financial gains and losses as well as student enrollment numbers to the GE OM and to the faculty leads for each Professional Master program to ensure transparency and continued viability of this Administrative Faculty role.

Marketing

  • Update and Implement marketing strategies for the PM NTS programs in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering.
  • Update advertisement materials for the PM NTS programs that can be distributed to prospective students in print and electronically .
  • Update website offerings of the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering advertising the PM NTS programs.
  • Attend professional meetings and manage recruiting efforts at these meetings.
  • Outreach to professional societies to market the PM NTS programs.
  • Meet with company representatives and potential sponsors of students.
  • Reach out, or assist the PM NTS program Directors to reach out to companies to promote the PM NTS programs and/or seek sponsorship.
  • Manage Issue related to the PM program Advisory Boards such as communication, reporting, and meetings.

Student Supervision

  • Supervise graduate students enrolled in the PM NTS programs.
  • Assist students in course selection.
  • Meet with students on demand to guide them throughout their course of study .
  • Work with program faculty to design Independent Studies and supervise those students In the PM NTS programs.
  • Collaborate with Mines Career Center to reach out to exploration and mining companies to identify possibilities for student internships and job opportunities.
  • Communicate with tenured and tenure-track faculty to stream-line curriculum and optimize sequencing of classes for the PM NTS programs.

Short and Modular Courses

  • Assist with managing the PM NTS programs by organizing short and modular courses. If these courses are Continuing Education Courses, this position will need to coordinate with Mines' CPES. If they are credit bearing, this position will need to need to coordinate with the Mines Registrar. If they are online, this position will need to coordinate with the Mines Trefny Center.
  • Interact with external presenters and organize the logistics in coordination with related university offices.
  • Scout venues for short and modular courses as necessary. Negotiate, in conjunction with the Controller's office, contracts with venues. Ensure that all course-related events provided to sponsors are suitable and cost-effective, that facilities are sufficient size and quality for the event, and that they are equipped with appropriate audio/video equipment.
  • Develop and maintain a convenient, customer-friendly system for advance meeting registration, and communicate with meeting attendees, before, during, and after the meeting, to ensure that all attendees feel welcomed and have any special needs met.
  • Arrange audio/video recording of the student/faculty/guest presentations as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters or higher degree in geology or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective and efficient event planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and levels of authority
  • Experience in budgeting and finance
  • Willingness to learn and to take responsibility
  • Expectation to meet the criteria of Graduate Faculty Status
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background knowledge in economic geology and ore deposit research
  • Work experience in the mineral exploration and mining industry is a big plus
  • Previous experience in student supervision
  • Previous experience organizing short and modular courses
  • Previous collegiate level teaching experience
