Position Title: Assistant Wrestling Coach
The Opportunity:

The Assistant Wrestling Coach is the primary assistant coach in the wrestling program.  The Assistant Wrestling Coach performs all duties assigned by the head coach and Director of Athletics.

Responsibilities:

Coaching & Instruction

  • Teach and uphold the fundamentals, techniques and methods of the wrestling program as directed by the head coach.
  • Teach Physical Activity classes each semester. 
  • Teach and exhibit excellent sportsmanship; set an example of good moral and physical behavior for student-athletes.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the head wrestling coach or Director of Athletics, including fundraising.
  • Monitor academic performance and overall well-being of student-athletes.
  • Attend coaches’ meetings and clinics for professional growth.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and other coaches to promote and improve the entire athletic program.  Effectively partner with other campus stakeholders including Admissions, Financial Aid and Residence Life.
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes. 
  • Purchase equipment and supplies.

Events

  • Attend all home and away wrestling matches as well as other competitive sporting and recreational Mines events whenever possible.
  • Prepare, lead and manage wrestling matches and team functions.
  • Facilitate team travel arrangements.
  • Represent the collective Colorado School of Mines institution and corresponding Athletic Department at all practice, competitive and community events.  Exhibit leadership in character, dress and demeanor. 

Compliance

  • Obey and uphold the policies of the NCAA, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Colorado School of Mines.
  • Complete the required NCAA recruiting examination annually, effective dates August 1-July 31.
  • Maintain recruiting records and corresponding data collection.
  • Attend and participate at in-service training led by head coach.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience coaching wrestling at the collegiate level. 
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or the ability to secure these certifications upon hire). 
  • Valid drivers license and ability to test and receive commercial drivers license (CDL).
  • Strong supervision, planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate collegiate athletes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in recreation, sports management, kinesiology or related field.
  • Background and/or experience in strength and conditioning.
  • Progressing knowledge of wrestling or sports industry trends.
