Position Title: Oracle Database Administrator
The Opportunity:

The Oracle Database Administrator is responsible for the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Oracle databases and all related enterprise applications. This person works closely with the DBA team, Enterprise System developers and our infrastructure team to ensure the databases and applications are running the latest version of software and configured to provide an optimal experience for our users.  The Oracle DBA will apply Oracle and Ellucian patches and upgrades, support Ellucian Banner applications, Banner-related Oracle databases, Oracle WebLogic, and Tomcat application servers.  

  •  Perform routine and specialized database administration for enterprise systems including:
    • Production and development support, root cause & performance analysis.
    • Install, upgrade, patch, manage, and maintain the Banner ERP system/Luminis Portal/Operational Data Store/Enterprise Data Warehouse and other databases.
    • System Tuning, SQL and Stored Procedure tuning, and debugging.
    • Schedule, configure and maintain data replication (i.e. Oracle Streams).
    • Design, implement, manage, and test database backups/restore infrastructure using tools such as Oracle RMAN and export.
    • Develop standard practices and procedures for database creation, storage, auditing, and change control.
    • Collaborate with database vendor technical support to resolve production and development database issues.
    • Serve as technical expert and mentor on Oracle and Unix/Linux to other staff members.
    • Clone database data from production into Development, Test and QA environments.
    • Perform database capacity planning.
    • Collect and translate business data requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data models and model existing systems.
    • Create, maintain, control, and audit user access to production databases by creating profiles with resource limits, password complexity and expiration policies.
    • Monitor file system space, database allocation, and data integrity, verify efficient use of disk storage, reclaim dead space, optimize space allocation and avoid out-of-space conditions.
    • Partner with the application architects and the developers to build enterprise level applications while ensuring scalability and high availability.
  • Assist with a wide variety of technical and policy-related tasks supporting ERP developers and ODS/EDW staff as a systems programmer.
  • Plan, design, document, and implement guidelines, rules, operational procedures and standards to be used with databases and application servers.  Determine and assure adequate procedures are applied consistently across all systems.  Assure existing vendor-based standards are followed and replicate these as much as possible across all systems.
  • Ensure the 24X7 operation of the institution’s database systems including minimizing the impact of downtime required for maintenance and responding to after-hours outages.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in computer science or a field closely related to computer science.  Individuals without a degree may be considered if they demonstrate possession of substantially the same knowledge level as found in a degree, but have attained the advanced knowledge through a combination of work experience and intellectual instruction.
  • Three or more years of Oracle DBA leadership experience including:  Oracle 10g and 11g; ANSI SQL, PL/SQL; Oracle database tuning and cloning; expertise with data replication, data security, storage solutions, database virtualization; database object development; index tuning; database design and modeling.
  • Successful project management experience for database-driven projects from inception to completion.  Proven ability to organize, coordinate, and direct team activities and results.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and UNIX / Linux OS platforms and UNIX / LINUX shell scripting.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve technical problems independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate effectively with technical colleagues as well as non-technical users.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and to work cooperatively with others.
  • Proven success multi-tasking and completing tasks and projects on schedule.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of applications analysis, design analysis, project planning, resource estimates, testing and debugging, implementation and documentation.
  • Technical experience with Ellucian products, especially Banner and Operational Data Store/Enterprise Data Warehouse and/or prior experience in higher education.
