The Extreme Structures and Materials Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Leslie Lamberson in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines is searching for a postdoctoral researcher to support related endeavors on two grants through the Office of the Naval Research and the Army Research Laboratory which involve the dynamic characterization of metals. The position will also have a large experimental equipment development component involving a currently existing light-gas accelerator in the lab. This position has available start dates between 12/1/20 to 6/30/21 and there is potential for it to be renewed for up to 2 years (with increased salary).
Characteristic Duties
- Conducts experimental and analytical research as it relates to the dynamic characterization of metals (and aids in other research projects to a lesser extent as needed)
- Help develop dynamic experimental capability in the laboratory
- Helps to oversee graduate student research as it relates to project goals and meeting project milestones
- Works with a diverse team of co-PI’s, research faculty, and graduate students
- Writes reports and creates technical presentations quarterly, or as needed
- Presents at conferences and leads publication efforts based on research endeavors
Minimum Requirements
- Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in engineering or a related field
- Strong teamwork and communication skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Kolsky (split-Hopkinson) bar experiments is strongly desired
- Familiarity with digital image correlation and optical imaging, along with other metrology techniques is strongly desired, as well as MATLAB and LaTeX.
