Pay Range:

$38,000 - $63,000

The Opportunity:

Prof. Eliot Kapit is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher to assist his work as part of the Fermilab Superconducting Quantum Materials Center (sqms.fnal.gov). Prof. Kapit's quantum information research group studies a wide array of topics in quantum computing, including superconducting device engineering, autonomous error correction, noise-tolerant quantum algorithms and quantum simulation. Prof. Kapit's involvement with SQMS is similarly broad and there are a wide range of potential topics the successful candidate could study.  This position has an anticipated summer 2021 start date.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research in quantum information science in collaboration with SQMS. Possible topics could include but are not limited to: design and operation of 3d cavity-based logical qubits, development hardware efficient quantum error correction schemes, and the development of quantum algorithms (and noise mitigation strategies for them) for simulating many-body physics and classical optimization tasks.
  • Publish related research and present at conferences.
  • Successful candidate will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in physics or a related field.  All PhD requirements should be completed by the time work commences. 
  • Previous research experience in one or more areas of quantum information science.
  • Publication record in one or more areas of quantum information science.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience simulating quantum physics with classical computers.
