The Opportunity:

The Coulter Student Health Center (SHC) provides primary healthcare and dental services to eligible students at the Colorado School of Mines.  The Health Center has approximately 7,000 patient visits per year and is staffed by advanced practice providers and a clinical support team.  The Health Center also contracts with a consultant physician. The Associate Director (AD) will serve in a combined administrative/clinical position.  The AD will provide direct patient care to Mines students along with supporting the Director in the supervision, direction, management, oversight and evaluation of the medical services within the SHC.  This position will also be responsible for providing direct supervision of the Student Health Insurance Program Coordinator and the Staff Dentist.

The AD is a 1.0 FTE, full-time, benefitted position, and will have the opportunity to work remotely one day a week.  This individual should be familiar with medical office standards, practices, and policies.  This position requires leadership, attention to detail, organization and strong communication skills.   This position reports to the SHC Director and performs duties under the direction of the SHC Director.


Supervisory and Administrative Duties (60%)

  • Serve as the direct supervisor of the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) Coordinator and Health Center Dentist
  • Oversight of student health insurance program and dental services
  • Ensure compliance with guidelines, policies, and practices in medical and dental clinic
  • Assist in departmental strategic planning
  • Responsible for evaluation and performance reviews for direct reports
  • Responsible for hiring, orientation, onboarding and development of areas of supervision while providing input to the Director for final review and approval
  • Manage daily medical operations and supervision of the Health Center staff in the absence of the Director
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and present resolutions and recommendations to the Director
  • Manage immunization compliance and understand and comply with all regulatory, procedural and reporting requirements
  • Serve as CLIA lab coordinator and understand and comply with all regulatory, procedural, licensing and reporting requirements
  • Assist in the management of COVID policies and procedures
  • Serve on campus committees
  • Assist in policy-making, quality improvement, updating and implementing protocols as they pertain to health care delivery
  • Other duties as assigned to support the work of the Coulter Student Health Center

Direct Clinical Service (40%)

  • Provide general and preventive medical care, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret lab/radiology tests, seek appropriate consultation when needed and prescribe medicine/treatments.
  • Deliver clinical services both in-person and via telehealth
  • Arrange appropriate timely referrals for specialty care as needed with proper follow-up 
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and clear patient medical records and complete documentation in a clear and timely manner
  • Order/perform CLIA waived laboratory tests, obtain necessary samples for laboratory testing, including the performance of pap smears and wet mounts when indicated
  • Telephone and in-person medical triage
  • Perform duties in a cost-effective manner, striving to avoid wasting resources without jeopardizing quality of care and service
  • Maintain clinical competency and enhances professional growth and development through continuing education activities.  Shares knowledge gained through continuing education with staff.
  • Interact with patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous manner.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient records and institutional materials
  • Support and uphold clinic policies, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control procedures, and codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
  • Serve as a staff resource for patient care information, respond to and intervene, to resolve patient problems and serve as patient advocate
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Board-certified Nurse Practitioner
  • 3 years’ experience in an ambulatory care setting
  • 3 years management/supervision experience
  • Colorado RN/Advanced Practice Nurse
  • DEA registration/full prescriptive authority
  • NPI
  • BLS certification
  • Experience with electronic medical records
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years experience in an ambulatory care setting
  • 5 years healthcare management/supervision experience.
  • Prior student health experience
