Position Title
System Administrator and Data Analyst
The Opportunity

The Earth Observation Group (EOG) is accepting applications for a staff person to monitor and manage data processing pipeline and database server, as well as perform data analysis to support research and development. The applicant is expected be familiar with Linux and comfortable working with command line interface (CLI). The chosen candidate will be trained to learn about the processing system of EOG and proprietary software tools and become the authority of EOG’s data processing infrastructure. With full access to EOG’s database and archive, the chosen candidate will also participate in data analysis activities to support research and product development.

In this role, you will be challenged to think ahead and find system shortcomings, propose plans for improvement, and execute the plan. The role requires self-accountability to keep data flowing in near real-time.

 

Responsibilities
  • Site Reliability and data management (70%)
    • Take the lead in managing the ingestion, processing, distribution, and archiving of satellite imagery and derived products.
    • Use programming skills to develop tools to support missions.
    • Assist website management and content creation (including web maps) for data distribution.
    • Create report of system status and data access.
  • Data analysis (30%)
    • Participate in data analysis activities by answering data processing requests.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • At least 2 Years’ Experience working in Linux environments.
  • Programming Skills
    (Required) Python, BASH
    (Optional) IDL, JavaScript, SQL, Matlab, Ruby
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite - especially Excel
  • Developing and maintaining web map to display data.
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and research skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiar with web development
    • Bootstrap framework
    • Node.js
  • Familiar with server administration
  • Database management (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Web server management (Apache web server)
  • Cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)
  • Familiar with GIS and remote sensing applications
    • ArcGIS, QGIS, ENVI
    • Web mapping tools (Leaflet, Google Map API, Mapbox, etc.)
    • Google Earth Engine

Pay Range

$56,436 - $63,680

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
