Business Intelligence Reporting Administrator
The Opportunity

The Business Intelligence Reporting Administrator will assist in the reporting needs for various offices at the Colorado School of Mines, including but not limited to Registrar, Admissions, Human Resources, Financial Aid, and Finance. This is the hands-on technical administrator of the Operational Data Store (ODS) and Cognos reporting environment at the Colorado School of Mines. As part of the Business Intelligence team, the Reporting Administrator will be responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of reports and dashboards using the ODS and Cognos. The Administrator will be responsible for providing the necessary custom database objects to support client schedules as determined by the governing structure. Will establish best practices in regard to database object development and maintenance as well as for Cognos report development and deployment.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the 24x7 operation of the institution’s applications. This includes minimizing the impact of downtime required for maintenance by scheduling patches and upgrades for off-hours or weekends as well as responding to after-hours outages.
  • Proactively work with business units to stay on top of their information access/reporting needs and provide solutions that leverage the ODS and Cognos product suite.
  • Provide vision and strategy to create a model of service delivery to ensure an increased percentage of reports can be generated by users with little or no assistance.
  • Establish practices to ensure data quality and perform quality reviews.
  • Provide technical support for Cognos applications including report analysis, report migration, managing user access, and design and implement security architecture.
  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Develop and maintain Framework Manager Models and applies proper securities and publishing packages.
  • Provide best practices for day-to-day operations performance analysis, tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Attend BI Committee meetings, including preparation of the meeting agenda and distribution of the meeting notes.
  • Independently monitor performance of the ODS and Cognos reporting environment and implement performance improvements in collaboration with database administrator staff.
  • Prioritize and assign tasks based on need, complexity, and available resources.
  • Actively manage all production issues. Open and close tickets internally, and with the vendor. Escalate to the BI Manager as needed.
  • Keep abreast of upcoming upgrades and new technology trends in the area of Business Intelligence and ODS/Cognos. Recommend, plan, and implement any changes.
  • Understand the reporting metadata model provided by Ellucian for their products and understand the capabilities and limitations to better design the most appropriate solution for the customer.
  • Write, debug, and tune stored procedures. Create user-defined functions and views.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a computer-related field is required and two (2) years of experience as a reporting system architect and developer. Relevant education and experience in the appropriate technical areas may substitute year-for-year for the required degree.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing strategies and work plans for providing Business Intelligence solutions, as well as supporting an environment operating at optimal performance and responsive to future and current needs.
  • Strong knowledge of relational database concepts, triggers and stored procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve technical problems independently.

  • Higher Education experience
  • Knowledge of Banner table structures
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner Operational Data Store (ODS)
  • Experience with COGNOS
  • Experience with Workday

Pay Range

$88,200 - $97,100

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
