The Opportunity:

The Department of Mining Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for a faculty position in Extractive and Process Metallurgy. Applicants must hold a PhD in Mining Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, or a related field.  Applicants who apply for appointment as a tenured or tenure-track faculty member should meet the criteria for the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (see the Faculty Handbook at  Applicants for appointment as a Professor of Practice should provide evidence of pre-eminence in having held significant leadership positions in the industry.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the extractive and mineral processing program via the Kroll Institute for Extractive Metallurgy in the Department of Mining Engineering (KIEM) through teaching, research and service. The candidate will be expected to be an active contributor to the existing KIEM research programs with the Center for Resource Recovery and Recycling, the Critical Materials Institute, REMADE and ongoing industrial sponsored projects. The candidate will also be expected to develop independent research projects. The candidate will teach in support of the extractive metallurgy program which may include courses in: pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy and electrometallurgy, mineral processing, chemical processing, transport phenomena, chemical thermodynamics and others as required.  The candidate will also be expected to provide service to the Department of Mining Engineering, the University, and appropriate professional societies, through active participation in committees and service to the industry.

About Mines, the Department, and Golden, CO:

Colorado School of Mines is located in picturesque Golden, in the foothills of the Rockies, 15 miles west of Denver and 20 miles south of Boulder.  Mines is a unique institution of applied science and engineering with a global reputation for excellence in programs including the Metallurgical, Minerals and Mining Engineering disciplines.  Several world-class government and private research institutions are close by, so that Mines provides many opportunities for multidisciplinary research collaborations. The Department of Mining Engineering is committed to stewardship of earth resources, and conducts educational and research programs leading to B.S. degree in Mining Engineering, and MS and PhD degrees in three programs: Mining Engineering, Earth Resources Development Engineering, and Underground Construction and Tunnel Engineering. The Department is comprised of 15 academic faculty plus many additional research, adjunct and affiliated faculty and technical staff.  This year, the department expects an annual graduating class of 50 BS students and perhaps 10 to 15 MS and PhD degrees granted, with between 20% and 30% female students and others from groups traditionally underrepresented in technical disciplines .
