Position Title: Applied Mathematical and Statistics - Teaching Faculty
The Opportunity:

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty position to begin in August 2020.  The position is non tenure-track at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor, depending on experience and qualifications. We seek candidates excited to share in collaborative efforts to improve mathematics and statistics instruction mainly at the undergraduate level.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses from the core mathematics sequence (Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Differential Equations), Probability and Statistics and/or Scientific Computing. There may be opportunities to teach other upper division and graduate courses as well. Further, the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate multi-section courses and collaborate effectively in curriculum development, innovative pedagogy, and other departmental service.


We are looking for superb teachers who inspire students.  The successful candidate will have a relevant Ph.D. (preferred), or a Master’s degree and an established record of successful teaching and service. A qualified applicant will have strong interpersonal and communication skills. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in statistics, data science and/or numerical methods. Please note any online courses that you may be developing now or in the future. Candidates must exhibit the potential and desire to be involved in the improvement of AMS degree programs.

To be considered at the rank of Teaching Associate Professor, a candidate should have documented success in teaching as the instructor of record as well as meaningful department service, curriculum development, or other relevant areas. To be considered at the rank of Teaching Professor, a candidate should have an extensive record of exceptional teaching and experience. We are aware that our teaching faculty positions are unique, and a candidate may therefore prefer to leave the question of rank to the discretion of AMS.
