Position Title: Department of Computer Science - Open Rank Tenure/Tenure-Track Faculty 
Job Description:

The Department of Computer Science at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for multiple open rank tenure/tenure-track faculty positions in Computer Science (applications considered at assistant, associate, and full professor levels), anticipated to begin in August 2020. While all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, the department is especially interested in candidates with research specialization in one or more of the following areas, due to their synergies with existing departmental and university strengths: (1) Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, (2) Human-Computer Interaction, (3) Cybersecurity, (4) Data Management, and (5) Quantum Computing.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidates will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and develop an externally funded research program that will support graduate students and lead to high-impact results at top conferences and journals. In addition, successful candidates will be expected to conduct service to both Mines and their professional research community. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicants must possess, by August 2020, a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Applicants must demonstrate or show evidence of excellent written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Applicants for associate professor or full professor must have an established and currently-funded program with clear potential for continuance, and a proven track record of success in teaching, research, and service.

Colorado School of Mines, Colorado's oldest public university and premiere engineering university, is located in Golden, Colorado: a historic gold rush-era town nestled in the foothills  of the Rockies, 13 miles west of Denver and 21 miles south of Boulder. Mines has about 4900 undergraduate students and 1300 graduate students in a broad range of applied science and engineering disciplines. The CS Department currently has 13 tenured/tenure track faculty and 5 teaching faculty. The department offers a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Computer Science with approximately 680 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. From its inception, the Department of Computer Science has focused on basic and applied research that addresses problems of national interest. We maintain a high-quality, well-funded research program (e.g., two recent NSF CAREER Awards received) with strong participation from students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The CS faculty tend to work collaboratively and successful candidates are expected to interact with researchers both in the department and across the Mines campus. The CS department has strengths in multiple areas including robotics, high-performance computing, networks, machine learning and cybersecurity.
