Position Title: Temporary Materials Handler I
Job Description:

This position assists the Mines campus with their distribution needs through Central Receiving, Central Stores, Mail and Package Delivery services. Provides quality service to the faculty and staff and works with vendors to fulfill the needs of the College. 

Temporary employment at Mines lasts no longer than nine months and does not include benefits. ‚ÄčIt is anticipated that this could become a permanent position in the future.

Responsibilities: This position organizes freight and checks in and logs packages for delivery, unloading trucks with a forklift as necessary.  Maintains logs and filing systems for the purpose of tracking packages by date.  Checks all incoming freight against purchase orders and checks for damaged or poorly labeled freight.  Resolves customer, vendor and carrier issues.  Loads vehicles with freight that has been checked in, optimizing delivery times and checking for time sensitive packages.  Unloads, handles and sorts incoming USPS mail and packages along with interdepartmental mail for campus-wide delivery.  Maintains scheduled mail route and non-scheduled package delivery routes. Serves as a contact for campus personnel regarding delivery issues and procedures.  Delivers processed mail to the local postal station which involves driving off campus.  Other duties include preparing vehicles for the day's functions or for overnight/weekend storage, clearing loading area of snow and debris due to inclement weather, updating daily and weekly logs, resolving outstanding issues such as shipments requiring special handling and supervising student workers.
Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience which includes warehousing, handling, shipping, receiving, storing, inventory, and/or distribution of goods.  Computer experience is required in order to utilize the purchase order system, track shipments, update daily/weekly logs and communicate via email. Must possess excellent customer service skills to include communicating with and responding to all levels of employees in a professional environment such as a college, university, corporation or other similar setting, and communicating with vendors. Must also possess excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills.

Necessary Special Requirements:
 A current Colorado Driver License is required and must be maintained during employment. (A copy of your current motor vehicle record (MVR) will be required as a condition of hire). Must be physically able to perform strenuous physical labor including lifting 100 pounds. 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using software such as Banner
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of US postal regulations
  • Prior experience with mail handling
  • Experience operating a fork lift
  • Prior experience in a central stores environment
  • Prior experience in a university setting which included laboratories
