Position Title: Director, IT Infrastructure Solutions
The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Deputy CIO, the Director of IT Infrastructure is a key member of the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Department Leadership Team. The Director is responsible for building and leading the teams that design, implement, and monitor Mines’ enterprise technology infrastructure. Responsible for IT operations to include managing, planning, developing and directing the system operations. Handles build-out of data centers, network systems, all mobility, security, telephony, network data services, disaster recovery, operation of current and vendor managed infrastructure applications, storage to the network, business continuity, equipment and infrastructure. 

Responsibilities:

Strategy and Planning:

  • Responsible for long-term strategic planning and operational aspects to ensure system infrastructure functionality, capacity and security needs for current and future systems and intercommunication requirements.
  • Ensure stability and strategic success for support of application services, business services, production services, and enterprise database administration.
  • Envision new systems and solutions for existing business processes which drive efficiencies of our teams and recommend changes to existing business processes when appropriate to drive efficiency.
  • Understand, communicate and manage the cost of installation as well as ongoing IT infrastructure costs.
  • Develop and implement a "cloud ready" infrastructure strategy, framework and culture.
  • Participate in the assessment of external and internal technology capabilities with a focus on suitability for integration with the existing IT operations environment.

Supervision, Personnel Management, and Staff Development:

  • Develop, empower, and mentor infrastructure solutions managers, engineers and analyst level employees via performance management, growing the team into top performers dedicated to supporting ITS objectives and finding great new talent.
  • Organize, manage and prioritize the processes and operations of the functional teams, guiding them to adapt to changing requirements and customer demands.
  • Supervise professionals both directly and indirectly through subordinates to achieve the institution's and the department's goals. To that end, support professional development and create opportunities for professional growth
  • Guide and onboard new team members regarding vision, concepts, and practices of the infrastructure solutions teams, Mines and ITS.
  • Forecast resource allocation, capacity availability and planning to ensure the successful completion of projects and day-to-day tasks.

Operational Management:

  • Lead and manage IT infrastructure operations - systems administration, network operations, data centers and physical infrastructure for data centers.
  • Ensure enterprise-level production systems are implemented, monitored, and supported to ensure maximum availability and reliability.
  • Collaborate in creating, managing, and continuous improvement of the service delivery processes including change management, configuration management, communication, outage notification, incident reporting, metrics, and root cause analysis.
  • Plan and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans and initiatives.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the lT infrastructure budgets and inventories and allocate resources following budget approval and approve expenditures.
  • Create and maintain monitoring and alerting systems and the associated processes to provide world class support for internal and customer facing systems.
  • Create and implement standards for the management and efficiency of the current systems that maintain stability, enable continuous improvement, and drive business agility.
  • Partner with IT Security and other teams to ensure security on systems in line with compliance requirements and emerging best practices; protecting the IT environment from anything that will compromise security, stability or reliability.
  • Manage infrastructure solution vendors and participate in contract negotiations as necessary, quantifying risks and cost in recommending solutions.

Stakeholder Relationships Management:

  • Work with teams and external partners to ensure high level planning and design documents are in line with the vision, policies, and guidelines of ITS and Mines.
  • Maintain and foster new campus and community partnerships.
  • Maintain and nurture customer relationships.

Communication:

  • Serve as a primary liaison for IT infrastructure issues at Mines.
  • Facilitate successful execution of major IT projects, including communication with key stakeholders and coordination of 3rd party deliverables.
  • Clearly articulate problems and proposed options and solutions and apply judgment in implementing hardware and software methodologies, processes and practices to ensure security, resilience, maintainability and security of infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration and/or a field related to engineering, technology, or computer science. Individuals without a degree may be considered if they demonstrate possession of substantially the same knowledge level as found in a degree, but have attained the advanced knowledge through a combination of work experience and intellectual instruction.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Leadership skills and experience building and leading high functioning teams towards the achievement of common goals.
  • 10+ years’ experience leading design and support of enterprise-level I.T. infrastructures including:
    • Expertise in operational stability, ensuring up-time.
    • Expertise with technical architecture, infrastructure design and/or implementation or solutions engineering
    • Experience performing as the escalation point for production issues.
    • Leadership experience in disaster recovery and business continuity.
    • Expertise in capacity, performance, security, and business continuity.
    • Leadership experience in data center management and moves.
    • Superior customer service orientation and relationship management with organizational       partners and customers.
    • Experience building new infrastructure using reliable state of the art technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and persuasion skills.
  • Technologically savvy, with the ability to work in varied systems, must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to utilize intermediate formulas and functions.
  • Demonstrable and successful experience supervising, managing, and leading diverse teams within the area of IT.
  • Strong background working with presentations systems, desktop deployment tools, and domain computer configurations.
  • Demonstrated success building buy-in for an innovative and bold strategic vision.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience implementing ITIL processes.
  • Proven experience working with vendors in strong partnerships.
  • Experience providing technology infrastructure solutions at a college or university or a large heterogeneous environment.
  • Demonstrable and successful experience supervising managing, or leading individuals within a technical infrastructure architecture, implementation, or support environment
  • Experience utilizing project management processes to positively impact project outcomes.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Master's degree in a field related to business administration, engineering, technology, or computer science
