Position Title: Career Events Coordinator
The Opportunity: The Colorado School of Mines Career Center offers several signature student experiences connecting students to future opportunities, including two annual large-scale career fairs as well as other associated career events. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Employer Relations and Recruiting, the Career Events Coordinator will spearhead the planning, logistics, communication, and execution of the Colorado School of Mines major career events.  The Mines career fairs are truly exemplar events with 250 to 350 hiring organizations participating and 2000-3000 students attending.  The Career Events Coordinator will lead the efforts which include project planning, delegating tasks, and acting as liaison with vendors, campus partners, students, and volunteers. Coordinating the events involves collaborating with a variety of internal, and external, campus partners to ensure events have a maximum positive impact on students and the institution.  This position will also support employer engagement and Career Center activities outside of our major Career Events.

 Career Event Management:  Preparation, Execution, Communication & Logistics

  • Operational responsibility for project management of Career Day, which includes multiple months of advance planning, preparation and post-event coordination and debrief
  • Identify and liaise with current and potential vendors in support of career events. This includes coordinating with office of procurement to secure vendors.
  • Works with campus partners to maximize event impact on students and the institution.
  • Coordinates and trains campus volunteers, students and staff.
  • Partners with campus colleagues to develop and produce marketing materials for all events, including a comprehensive program guide for Career Fairs.
  • Delegates event preparation tasks to student and professional staff.
  • Develops event layouts, including placement of participating organizations.
  • Oversees career fair budget, employer registration processes, and communication for Career Events.
  • Coordinates set up of events with vendors and campus partners, serving as point person for event implementation.
  • Leads contingency planning efforts and implementation.
  • Prepares evaluation processes for employers, students, and campus partners. Leads change initiatives for future events.
  • Directs communication and subsequent approval with City of Golden/safety management personnel. Fulfill required protocols.

Events and additional employer relations duties 

  • Develop and lead programs connecting alumni with current students and recent alumni for recruitment and professional development.
  • Organizes and supports employer engagement events, including targeted industry focused events.  
  • Strategic coordination with Employer Relations team for employer events and recruitment schedule.
  • Maintains relationships with a portfolio of Mines tier 1 employers. This will include developing and maintaining contacts within the assigned organizations and ensuring those employers are best positioned to recruit Mines grads.

Other duties as assigned 

  • Support Student Life, CLASS, and campus initiatives.
  • On occasion, this position may be assigned other duties needed to help drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and uphold Mines’ and the Career Center’s organizational values.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline from an accredited four-year institution of higher education.
  • Experience in managing large projects and events from planning to execution.
  • Experience organizing complex systems with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with post-secondary staff and faculty.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to coordinate vendors, campus partners, organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, work in a team-oriented environment, as well as independently, and adapt to change in the workplace.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive environment and demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other relevant technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the planning and execution of Career Events.
  • Experience in gathering data, compiling and analyzing information, and preparing reports.
  • Knowledge of college recruiting principles, procedures and databases.
  • Experience managing budgets and resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines as they relate to career opportunities for students.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations as applicable to the employment recruitment of interns, co-ops and new graduates.
