Position Title: Enterprise Applications and Database Administrator
The Opportunity:

The Application and Database Administrator is responsible for the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and all related enterprise applications and Oracle databases. This person will update configuration, apply patches and upgrades, support Ellucian Banner applications, Banner-related Oracle databases, Oracle WebLogic, and Tomcat application servers. The position will perform database and application server performance analysis and monitoring to ensure optimal performance during daily processing as well as high demand events such as student registration. This person will work with the DBA team, developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure that proper security and networking requirements are met to support administrative systems.


Systems and Application Administration and Management

  • Install, configure, implement, administer and maintain a portfolio of enterprise systems, including but not limited to Ellucian Banner ERP system, Automic Enterprise Job Scheduler, Luminis Portal and Operational Data Store (ODS).
  • Manage, install, and perform software upgrades and patches.
    Ensure the 24X7 operation of the institution’s enterprise systems and applications including minimizing the impact of downtime required for maintenance and responding to after-hours outages.
  • Support Banner 9 essential services such as Application Navigator, Ethos Identity Services, Jasper reports and Ellucian Solution Manager.
  • Create cases and work with vendor technical support to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Develop methodologies to integrate other campus on-premise and cloud systems with enterprise systems ensuring reliable performance and use.
  • Collaborate with project teams to design, develop and test integrations/interfaces as defined in the agreed-upon requirements.
  • Collaborate with ITS team members to develop and implement system access and security policy and procedures.
  • Provide application-level support including troubleshooting operational issues, code deployment and testing of upgrades and patches.


Oracle Database Management and Support

  • Provide database administration including upgrades, cloning, patching, system tuning, debugging and monitoring across multiple applications and instances.
  • Create, maintain, control and audit user access to production databases by creating profiles with resource limits, password complexity and expiration policies.
  • Monitor file system space, database allocation and data integrity.  Verify efficient use of disk storage, reclaim dead space, optimize space allocation and avoid out-of-space conditions.
  • Design, implement, manage and test database backups/restore infrastructure.
  • Partner with Application and System Administration teams to ensure accurate, timely database backups and disaster recovery, scalability and high availability.
  • Develop standard practices, procedures and documentation for database creation, storage, auditing, and change control.
  • Communicate systems changes and enhancements, project statuses and milestones, and resource availability and capacity to management, stakeholders and end users.
  • Produce progress reports and articulate system issues or risks.
  • Advise or respond to questions from Mines and ITS leadership regarding technical issues impacting the enterprise systems.

On occasion, this position may be assigned other duties needed to help drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and uphold Mines’ and the Department’s organizational values.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a field closely related to computer science required. Individuals without a degree may be considered if they demonstrate possession of substantially the same knowledge level as found in a degree, but have attained the advanced knowledge through a combination of work experience and intellectual instruction.

  • Three or more years of experience with ERP system management, maintenance and support; relational database management systems (Oracle and/or MS-SQL Server); and Linux operating system.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical colleagues and non-technical users.

  • Demonstrated skills to diagnose and resolve technical problems independently.

  • Ability to assess risks and provide actionable solutions.

  • Proven success managing, balancing and completing simultaneous projects with ability to multi-task and adapt to changing business operations.

  • Experience installing, upgrading, configuring, managing and maintaining applications.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and work cooperatively with management, co-workers, ITS staff and other stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Oracle DBA experience including: Oracle 12c and later versions, database tuning, cloning, data replication, data security, storage solutions, database virtualization, object development, index tuning, database design and modeling.

  • Successful project management experience for database-driven projects from inception to completion.  Proven ability to organize, coordinate, and direct team activities and results.

  • Three to five years of experience along with working proficiency of UNIX / LINUX shell scripting. 

  • Experience with tools such as GIT, Automic Enterprise Job Scheduler, Ellucian Solution Manager (ESM), Application Navigator, Banner 9 Admin Pages and Self-Service, Jenkins Agent and Ellucian Ethos Identity and Integration services.

  • Experience with load balancing applications (such as F5) and middle tier applications (such as Tomcat).

  • Technical and functional knowledge of Ellucian's ERP software (Banner), Hyland OnBase ECM and Team Dynamix case management system and/or prior experience working in higher education.
