Faculty Developer
The Opportunity

The Trefny Innovative Instruction Center at the Colorado School of Mines is seeking an experienced Faculty Developer to become an active member of our team. The position reports to the Center director and will collaborate with the team to advance teaching and learning efforts at Mines. 

The Trefny Center leads efforts on campus to promote evidence-based teaching and learning at Mines though professional development opportunities for faculty, participation in teaching and learning initiatives at the institution, and research on effective teaching and learning. The faculty development team supports efforts across all levels of the university to ensure that curriculum, instruction, and assessments are research-based, aligned, and supportive of all students. This is a full-time, on-campus appointment. 

  • Design and facilitate opportunities for faculty and instructional staff to learn about evidence-based, student-centered, inclusive teaching and learning practices that promote teaching excellence and to support each other in that learning. 
  • Meet with faculty and instructional staff to analyze classroom practices, assess teaching and learning needs of courses, and share evidence-based approaches to course design, instruction, educational technology, and Engineering Learning. 
  • Upon invitation from faculty, provide personalized and confidential support on their teaching including consultation, classroom observations, coaching, and feedback to advance teaching practice. 
  • Provide leadership and expertise on teaching and learning; contribute to campus-wide committees and conversations to advise teaching and learning initiatives on campus. 
  • Design and disseminate resources for faculty and instructional staff that connects education research and practice — creating a growing database that is readily accessible to the Mines community as well as the larger STEM community. 
  • Advance a culture of inclusion, equity, risk-taking, dialogue, and reflection about teaching and learning.  
  • Collaborate with leadership, faculty, staff, and Trefny Center colleagues.  
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related educational field (e.g., curriculum & instruction, faculty development, instructional design, etc.) or a Master’s degree with three or more years of experience in a Teaching & Learning Center or in a professional development role. 
  • Knowledge of current research, trends, and thinking in higher education teaching and learning 
  • Knowledge of course mapping and evaluation  
  • Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating professional learning opportunities 
  • Experience in the professional development of educators including faculty development, coaching adult learners, and assessment/documentation of the efforts. 
  • Experience with promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity 
  • Demonstrate excellence in course design, evidence-based instructional strategies, and assessment of student learning. 
  • Demonstrate willingness to expand skills and respond creatively to new challenges. 
  • Encompass integrity, respect for others, and appreciation for confidentiality 
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively 
  • Collaborate effectively 
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in a closely related field such as engineering education, science education, curriculum & instruction, educational psychology, or instructional design. 
  • Experience working in a Center for Teaching and Learning on a college campus. 
  • Contribution to the scholarship of teaching and learning or other forms of educational research. 
  • Knowledge of current research, trends, and thinking on anti-racism, diversity and inclusion, particularly in higher-education settings 
  • Knowledge of program mapping and evaluation 
  • Experience with various forms of educational technology 
  • Demonstrate high-quality, active and innovative, University-level teaching experience, preferably in a STEM field.

Pay Range

$76,853 - $84,443  

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
